What We Do
Bridging the communication Gap
This we do by teaching the Sign Language through divers learning platforms including the social media and digital tools. Our work empowers Deaf and hearing people to communicate freely, fostering INCLUSION and ensuring our Deaf friends can express themselves anytime, anywhere, confidently and without limits.
Advocating for Inclusion
We champion INCLUSION by promoting equal value, dignity and opportunities for persons with disabilities, encouraging society to create spaces where everyone belongs and can participate fully.
Scholarship for less Privileged children
We support indigent deaf children in our local community, Adamo-Ikorodu, Lagos, and we have successfully established an inclusive school (FDF ACADEMY), where we give them equitable education in an atmosphere of love.
Inclusive spelling bee
We organize Inclusive Spelling Bee Competition that brings together children of diverse abilities from different schools to participate, compete and shine in order to promote learning, confidence and inclusion among children of diverse abilities. This inspire schools and government institutions to adopt inclusive best practices- so children with disabilities can gain access to schools near home and reach their full potential.
Who We Are
Our Mission
To teach sign language, educate deaf children, create opportunities for empowerment and Inclusiveness for persons with disabilities through training, advocacy, employability skills Inclusive mental health and capacity development.
Our Vision
An Inclusive world where everyone thrives regardless of disability.
Friends of the Deaf Foundation (FDF) is an NGO set up by Funmilola Ogunro (Nee Shenkoya) in loving memory of her late sister, Olushola Abidemi Shenkoya (Shollyz), a final year student at the University of Ilorin.
The communication gap between the hearing and the Deaf is so wide and it needed to be bridged. Thus FDF was birthed.
With sign language, we are equal.
