Why We Need Your Support
The demise of Mrs. Funmi Ogunro’s Deaf younger sister, Late. OluShola Shenkoya, who died due to communication barrier at the hospital, even in her final year at the University, birthed the Friends of the Deaf Int’ Foundation with the vision to seeing everyone embrace sign language and promote inclusion of persons with Disabilities.
FDF Academy, school for the Deaf children was established in January 2020 at Funmi’s residence at Adamo, Ikorodu Lagos State, to alleviate the plight of some Deaf children on FDF’s scholarship, in accessing education in very far kilometers away.
As a purpose of inclusion and promoting educational rights of the Deaf children, which she claimed should be accessible and affordable.
Due to Covid-19 school lockdown in May, the Foundation started a Free online tutorial for Deaf children with FDF volunteers on WhatsApp and Facebook and gradually continue on GradelyNG for deaf Students across Nigeria in collaboration with NNAD and DTAN.
The School building project which started last year in February is currently in its 2nd stage (Foundation laying, german flooring, ground floor work, and Lintel construction). We still need ₦5 million naira to proceed to the 3rd stage of the project.

The project is in about 8 stages and requires approximately ₦30 million naira in total.
Children deserve the right to quality and affordable education, irrespective of their disabilities.
