What We Do
Bridging the communication Gap
This we do by teaching the hearing people sign language on social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook. We also establish sign classes in different locations such as Ikorodu, Mowe, Ijebu-Ode, Owoh (Ondo State), and many more classes to follow.
Advocating for Inclusion
We believe everyone is important regardless of His or Her THIS-ability. We encourage the society at large to accomodate and show concern for people living with disability.
Scholarship for less Privileged children
We have some deaf children found in different hearing schools in Lagos, and we have successfully enrolled in FDF ACADEMY where they get quality and accessible education in an atmosphere of love.
Usher syndrome awareness
We enlighten the general public on the cause of deaf-blindness. Usher syndrome is the genetic cause of deaf-blindness. It is an inherited syndrome not known by many people in Africa.
Who We Are
Friends of the Deaf Foundation (FDF) is an NGO set up by Funmi Ogunro (Nee Shenkoya) in loving memory of her late sister, Olushola Abidemi Shenkoya (Shollyz), a final year student at the University of Ilorin.
The communication gap between the hearing and the Deaf is so wide and it needed to be bridged thus FDF was birthed.
